WHITE GLAZE COLLECTION Works in this collection vary in size and shape but together they make a beautiful set. The rusted glaze is gloss. All pottery is wheel thrown and glazed with hand-formulated recipes mixed by the artist. About the Artist 👨‍🎤 “Tony Carr” – Handmade beakersThese beakers were made to emulate wood-fired Shino glazed drinking vessels. The Bourry Box wood kiln I fire in is not used in Australia’s summer as it is in a rural area. Recently I found out that Northcote Pottery Supplies make a Shino Style glaze formulated to be oxidation fired in an electric kiln so I triallled this. I used three different clay bodies, a white stoneware, an iron rich red clay and a brown grogged clay. I threw different shapes bearing in mind that shino glazes resposnd strongly to changes in texture. After the first or bisque firing I brushed on three coats of the Shino Style glaze inside and on the exterior to different levels. I also stamped on Jibbi’s logo and in some cases added to the stamped marks with a ceramic pencil. Each beaker is unique in shape and appearance with the rich smoothness of the glaze and the coarser feeling of the unglazed areas making them feel comfortable in the hand.
