  • WOOD FIRE CERAMIC

Stoneware beakers wood fired in a Bourry Box train kiln over two days. Australian hardwood is the main fuel source and the kiln is also fed from the side with split fence palings, smaller branches and bark. These have a Chun glaze over an iron rich base glaze both made to recipes from New Zealand master potter Len Castle.

    • Smoky Glaze Woodfired

White stoneware beakers wood fired in a Bourry Box train kiln over two days. Australian hardwood is the main fuel source and the kiln is also fed from the side with split fence palings, smaller branches and bark. An early reduction phase when the kiln is starved of oyxygen has given the hand brushed carbon trap Shino glaze on these beakers a grey smoky appearance. Variations of heat and ash during the firing have given the exposed clay flashing marks.

Stoneware beakers wood fired in a Bourry Box train kiln over two days. Australian hardwood is the main fuel source and the kiln is also fed from the side with split fence palings, smaller branches and bark. These have a Chun glaze over an iron rich base glaze on top of a hand brushed carbon trap Shino glaze. Varying thicknesses of glaze have given contrasting effects. Variations of heat and ash during the firing have given the exposed clay flashing marks.
